How did Remus get brown eyes, feminine features, and enormously bushy brown hair? I can certainly see the black-haired man as Sirius, but that huge head of curly hair just screams "Hermione".
I agree with you, however, that Remus and Sirius make a good pair, as long as Remus is willing to disregard the "prank" that could have ended with Remus executed for murdering Severus. I suppose Remus is just a natural beta-wolf, and will go along with anything his alpha does no matter how much it could harm him personally. Ah, true love!
From the way Remus told the story regarding the Prank in PoA, I'm guessing he did forgive Sirius for it. Lupin pretty much struck me as the sort of person who'd do anything for his friends, because he doesn't have much to begin with. He'd forgive Sirius anything.
Likewise, there's also the scene where Sirius says, 'Forgive me, Remus' and Remus says, 'And will you forgive me for thinking you were the spy?'. They do. 13 years of suspicions and deaths and hurt, and they forgive each other so easily. I'm not saying that's true love or anything. Just deep friendship.
As for the way Remus looks, JKR never said what colour his eyes were, just his hair. And the illustrations for the American edition does have him with long wavy hair. *shrug*
So amber eyes are fanon, not canon? Slip-up on my part!
I think you're right about Remus's desperate need for friendship. There has to be something unusual going on for him to completely disregard the actions of a "friend" who tries to make a murderer of him. Sirius apologizes for suspecting Remus of being a spy, but he never shows an iota of remorse for trying to have Remus kill Severus.
I find the power dynamics of the Marauders to be the most interesting thing about them by far. It isn't always pretty, but it's always fascinating. Love 'em!
I've been trying to comb the books for the colour of Remus's eyes, but I don't think JKR ever told us. (She only said Sirius had grey eyes in an interview, after all.) I like amber or brown, though.
And I totally agree about Sirius not being sorry about the Prank. He says something like, 'Serves him right, he was a git' in PoA, and I found it funny that Remus went on talking without reacting to what Sirius had said. Sort of like, 'Moving on... I'm the one telling the story, remember?'
The thing I like most about the Marauders is that they're all arseholes, in different ways and different levels, but it's there anyway. Lupin is different only because he is polite. Sirius, on the other hand, is true to himself to the point offensiveness. It's interesting the way they move with each other, and James and Peter.
Uhm, well Canon wise, he doesn't have a set eye colour, so I think I'm able to color his eyes any color I want, and I like him with brownish/amber eyes. And I have always thought, in my mind, that he had wavy/curly hair. That's just a personal thing. It's my own interpretation of the character. Hermione doesn't have short hair and I just draw feminine looking guys? I'm sorry but are you trying to correct me on the own characters that I draw?
it's great you have your own view of Remus, it clashes with my own and if you don't like how I draw or view him then you are welcome to just move on to the next picture
I'm not trying to correct you. I'm trying to explain why I so badly mistook the identity of one member of the couple. I believed with complete certainty that you had produced a particularly fine drawing of Hermione.
I think according to canon Remus's eyes are amber, as a sign of his lycantropy, but light brown is reasonable. The only real problem I have identifying the figure as Remus is the big hair. Curly hair on Remus is fine (and beautifully drawn in this case), but unless his skull is unusually large and oddly shaped, I have to interpret him as wearing a spectacular hippie hair-do. Not impossible in the Seventies, but I didn't think Remus was the type.
